Background and Experience
Nearly two decades were spent with Thermo Fisher Scientific in progressively senior engineering roles, culminating in Project Owner and Systems Engineer. This work included leading a major processor-card redesign for the mass spectrometer product range, alongside embedded C development, software tooling, hardware oversight, testing, and coordination across engineering, manufacturing, service, and customer-facing teams.
Sectors and Project Work
Work in clinical engineering included the design and development of specialised medical devices for hospital use, including a neonatal apnoea monitor, a CPAP alarm system, and an ICU sedation-control interface. These projects required robust embedded control, clear user-interface design, alarm logic, and a disciplined approach to safety and reliability.
Research engineering work at the University of Canterbury involved the development of custom laboratory instrumentation, embedded firmware, system integration, and dependable experimental systems designed to meet specialised academic requirements.
Operational engineering experience in aquatic facilities added further depth in process control and optimisation, with measurable improvements in water-treatment performance, chemical efficiency, and overall system stability.
